Did you try hard for this ? do you think you've tried hard enough to get what you got now, like, do you think that you deserve the things you're having now ? or do you consider yourself as lucky ? because you're studying in london, it's like almost everyone's dream. hola, sorry it takes me forever to answer this. been busy with school.
hm well…in terms of trying hard…i think academically speaking, i’m so blessed that i never really have problems with my grades. i have always been a nerd in nature ;p so good grades come in my way and therefore it makes it easier for me to choose which school i wanted. hallelujah, alhamdulillah lah, sesuatu banget.
regardless though, i tried oh-so-fucking hard to get approvals from my parents/family to learn media/art. you see, art is not really my family’s ‘thing’ as most, if not all, of them are bankers, lawyers and diplomats. therefore there was this pressure on me to follow the family’s footsteps by majoring in law/econs/politics-all those heavy stuff, which i’m not really interested in. it’s very hard to prove to them that art/media is my “call” and that i can excel in this field someday, until now i often still got these kind of sentiment: “oh, if only you took econs at UI, you’ll graduate by 2012” (in regards to my decision to take a year off after finishing high school in Indonesia and dismiss my offer from FEUI..) no doubt, being the rebel in the family is hard, but oh well, you can’t always make everybody’s happy, eh?
thankfully most of them have been really supportive as of lately since i always update them with my portofolios, stuff that i’ve been doing, etc.
so i think i am both. i tried hard and got lucky to deserve this :) in my opinion, it’s actually important to think that you’re lucky just so that you don’t take things for granted, that, it happened to you, of all people. however, you have to keep trying your best, to maintain your luck ;)
